What happens when you assume…

A note from Jodi...

Jodi Akst Coaching (JAC) had a major milestone this month. We launched our partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) to develop a professional learning experience for central office staff on leadership and management. This partnership aligns directly with our mission of empowering mission driven leaders. So, what does this have to do with the theme of this message about never assuming?

One of the core tenants of being a co-active coach is to always focus on the "co". That means knowing that the people sitting across from you (or on your screen) are the experts on themselves. They know what is best for them, they know historical context, and they know where they're aiming to go. JAC applies a co-active coaching approach with all our work whether coaching or consulting.

As we launch our work with DPSCD, we're not making any assumptions about what the learning experience should be or what these aspiring or experienced leaders need. We're asking and we're asking again. We're meeting with our clients, we're doing stakeholder interviews, we're bringing in experts from the district and from outside the district on all aspects of the curriculum and experience. Then, we're adopting the concepts from agile methodology and applying those to curriculum design to ensure we're being co-active throughout the process.

By not assuming, we're delivering!

How can you eliminate assumptions in your work?
